Self Identity - A Key to Teaching Children

Self identity and individuality is essential in helping a child learn. In the learning process a child must be confident. All children are different, and learn in different levels at different speeds. Each child is unique. Teaching a child about who they are, and that they are special is crucial in development of the confidence a child needs to learn.

It is helpful for children to learn their names and to know that their name is special and that they are uniquely made. With this in mind, Paul LaRue had an idea, and decided to pursue it. He thought, "what if children's identities were reinforced by the characters that they love to hear and watch on TV?"

Knowing that a child's world is also a musical world, Paul pitched his "big idea" to Veggie Tales, a Christian based organization that produces DVD, TV shows and music CDs for children based on characters that are vegetables. The producers of Veggie Tales decided that the idea was a perfect fit for them, and the very first PERSONALIZED CD for children by national cartoon characters was born.

Veggie Tales is known for teaching basic morals like honesty, integrity, being truthful and trustworthy through their music and DVDs. Now the same songs were recreated, only now, the characters are singing directly to the children BY NAME! Needless to say it was quite a challenge to have the performers record over 1,000 names with the proper inflections to fit seamlessly into the music, but they did it, and it worked!

The first CD was a Sing a Long CD and is interactive. Young children delight in singing and moving to this CD. Veggie Tales is also known for their very SILLY SONGS. Almost written with intellectual humor that adults can even enjoy, Silly Songs is geared for older children. Within a year of the first CD release, a second personalized CD featuring the Silly Songs had also been prepared. In 2009, the first personalized Veggie Tales DVD was released featuring clips from Veggie Tales movies.

LaRue was thrilled with the projects and the CDs were a huge success. Now armed with this success, He has successfully approached producers of The Wiggles, Barney the Dinosaur, Sesame Street, and yes, even Disney. Personalized CDs have now been produced and are available for the Wiggles, Barney the Dinosaur, Elmo and Friends, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, and the Disney Princesses.

All of the CDs teach wonderful things that kids should know, and all the characters teach these values by singing and speaking to the child directly by name. The Princesses for instance teach little girls about the importance of manners and etiquette. This makes an outstanding rare addition to the numerous Disney Princess toys and Elmo toys that are available.

These CDs are not sold in retail stores. Since each CD and DVD has to be individually prepared and burned (there are now over 1600 total names available) individual distributors each with special equipment are required to produce and sell the CDs. Sales generally take place in Mall Kiosks, fairs and festivals, and of course online.
