Cinderella is one of the most elegant of the Disney Princess characters and first appeared in the self titled Disney animated feature film that was released to theatres on February 15, 1950 and produced by Walt Disney.
Like so many of Walt Disney's fairy tales and stories adapted to animated feature films, the story of Cinderella has been recorded in many works throughout history with versions included from both Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm. Disney's animated film was most likened to the fairy tale authored by Charles Perrault's. Charles Perrault was a French author and published many fairy tales and his works included 'Puss in Boots', 'Bluebeard', 'Diamonds and Toads', 'Sleeping Beauty', 'The Ridiculous Wishes' and 'Little Red Riding Hood'.

Disney's Cinderella was well received and achieved three Academy Award nominations that included Original Music Score, Best Sound and Best Song for 'Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo'. The success of the film produced several direct to video sequel films featuring Cinderella that include 'Cinderella II: Dreams Come True' and 'Cinderella III: A Twist in Time'
After her father's death, Cinderella lives with her step mother Lady Tremaine and step sisters Anastasia and Drizella. She is forced to undertake the housekeeping duties and is treated like a maid. Cinderella has blonde hair and blue eyes her voice is performed by Ilene Woods in the film. She wears a blue ballroom gown and blue gloves thanks to her transformation to attend the ball by the Fairy God Mother and is often symbolic of the glass slipper that is featured in story. Cinderella is one of the most popular of the Disney Princesses and is loved by young girls.
