Creating Watermarks in Word 2003

Adding a watermark to a Word document can help protect the document, or identify its status to avoid accidental distribution. Word has a watermark feature that makes adding these warnings easy.

Word comes with several pre-defined watermarks that work in most situations. Word's standard watermarks include ASAP, CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, DO NOT COPY, SAMPLE and URGENT. Microsoft Word allows you to format the watermark. To format and apply a watermark to a document, choose Page Layout. Select the Watermark option and then the watermark you would like to apply

Select the style you would like and click Apply. If you want to add a custom watermark to your document, select the Watermark > More Watermarks option from the Page Layout menu..You will be presented with two watermark options: picture watermark or text watermark.

A picture watermark allows you to use an image to watermark your document. This is handy for logos and other meaningful images. To choose a picture watermark, choose Select Picture to select the image you want to use as a watermark. Word will provide scaling options for you to control the size of the watermark on the page.

A text watermark allows you to create your own text watermark. Select the Text combo box to select a pre-defined watermark or to enter your own. You can choose all of the standard text attributes to format your text watermark. Select OK and Word will apply the custom watermark to each page of your document.

Text watermarks can be useful for applying text such as "DO NOT COPY" or "CONFIDENTIAL" to your documents.
